Sacha Baron-Cohen's mocking in "Borat: Cultural Learnings Of American For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan" gave the nation global attention. It has now shot to third place in a list of the European countries that tourists and gap-year students would most like to visit, based on a poll of 2,800 people by www.travellersconnected.com.
Alastair Banks, from the website, explained: “It’s really quite fantastic what Borat has done to raise the public profile of Kazakhstan. For it to get more votes than Spain demonstrates the sheer power of the media. When we compiled the same survey last year, Kazakhstan barely got any votes at all.”
So what other places can expect a boost for their tourism following a recent film?
Zimbabwe - Blood Diamond
Uganda - Last King Of Scotland
Romania - Them
Slovakia - Hostel

Kazak leisure centre prepares for rush.
Yeah, but the baggage handlers are no good there, they either detonate your luggage, or you come back minus a head.

Actually more like Berlin 1945

I would have said more like Berlin 1845.

So mid 70's Bebington is confused with Paris 1924. I can understand that.

Or Chariots of Fire, where the Bebington Oval was meant to be the Paris Olympic stadium.

I think it would be a bad idea as the locations on films tend to look nothing like the reality. I watched 'Bhaji On The Beach' which featured a woman being picked up from a block of flats in Birmingham. The window she was waving from was my old room in college, in Surrey!
