Sweden's royal family are reportedly not amused after toy giants Mattel turned regal bride in waiting Crown Princess Victoria into a Barbie doll.

Princess Victoria, who weds fiance Daniel Westling in Stockholm on June 19, is recreated in a long pink gown, with royal sash, insignia and tiara and comes complete with a plush velvet throne. The doll - a one off for a series of "strong modern women" which also includes Oprah Winfrey and Harry Potter author J K Rowling - went on display in the Swedish capital this week.

"Girls and women all over the world admire this inspiring princess who stands for many of the values Barbie stands for as well," said a spokesman for Mattel. The doll has been given a warm reception by some younger members of the family but other senior members of the Swedish court feel it cheapens what should be an important royal event. "Royal Families have a hard enough time being taken seriously as it is without being turned into dolls. It is undignified," said one.

I wonder if they also do miniature guillotines?
