Animal authorities in Pennsylvania said a 5-week-old kitten rode to the state from New York behind the grill of a car.

Jenna Arsenault, community coordinator for the Bradford County Humane Society, said the people inside the car did not hear or see the kitten until after their 130-mile drive from Rochester, New York, to Ulster, Pennsylvania.

"It took more than 45 minutes just to get the grill off the Mazda before they could reach the kitten," Arsenault wrote in an e-mail message. "Once the kitten was removed from the car, he was immediately given water and a cool place to rest while they contacted BCHS to help figure out the best course of action."

Arsenault said the kitten, named Mazda in honour of the vehicle, was recovering from its ordeal at the shelter.

It's just like my cat... loves to fall asleep on the radiator.
