Illusionist Derren Brown has revealed his latest stunt to be shown on TV - making a woman believe that she has died in a car accident.

Julie Simm was hypnotised by Brown before being taken to a mock crash scene. She was then allowed to wander around the wreckage whilst ambulance men removed what appeared to be her body from a car.

The stunt is part of Derren Brown's new series Trick or Treat. A source at Channel 4 said, "She can't believe what's happening. As far as she's aware she is still alive, so she ends up having this strange out-of-body experience. She's clearly distressed, but not hysterically so."

They added, "She vowed to wear her seat belt from now on so it's had some public service value."

Now I find Derren Brown to be entertaining, interesting and amusing.  I've enjoyed every one of his programmes that I've seen but is this a stunt too far?  The truth behind hypnosis is that you can't be made to do anything that you don't want to. So while the people picked for these programmes are not stooges in that they are 'in' on the gag but they are selected by, for want of a better word, their gullibility.

What do you think? When you wake up you'll write a comment, vote in the poll and click on an advert. Oh, and you'll do this every day. 3,2,1 and you're back in the room.

I've probably said it before but Derren Brown will get away with what we, the viewers, let him. Until the outcry starts he will keep pushing the boundaries.

I agree with you that his private life must be strained. I mean, he will know if he's manipulating his partner but they might wonder on occasion!

His fame and infamy will serve him right. Someday, another more clever manipulator will take his place, and I hope that Brown will be a bit shaken out of his wits. I admire his artistry, his panache, his style and immense charms and skills.( I would wish to meet him.) But I can also surmise that he is a very lonely person. Day to day people do not/ cannot trust him. Thus, how could he ever have a successful, truly intimate relationship with one special partner, if his partner is always wary of Brown's skills and manipulations? He surely must doubt if he is ever loved for himself, or wonder if his partner might feel manipulated. Sad, really!

It's interesting that you say you can only see Derren Brown through Youtube. Have you noticed that a lot of the fill-ins for this series have been shot in the States where he is virtually unknown. In this country he's so famous now he wouldn't get away with half the things he does because people are on their guard as soon as they see him!

They finally got around to screening the one that the article was originally about!

I think that some good might come from this one. Did you see the way that she was driving? Not looking, hands off the wheel, fiddling around with stuff, etc. I've said before that people have to buy in to doing what they're told under hypnosis on a subliminal level. I think that the reason she believed it so easily was that subconsciously she had been expecting to crash because she was such a lousy driver! If the experience at the 'crash' scene coupled with seeing her bad driving habits make her take a bit more care then DB has done us all a favour!

Here in the USA, we can only know of Brown's tricks via Youtube. The car crash/ out of body sequence has just now been posted. I think Brown should be ashamed of himself. How far will he go for a sensation? I really do wish that someone would do to him ( in kind) what he has done to others. He really is a sadist.

I can imagine that there are some employers out there that are thinking 'if those people are so susceptible that they'll do that then I must be able to get them to do all the crap jobs around here'! Also, being serious, I've seen that program two or three times and I doubt I could pick any of the 'victims' out of a line up. Such is the temporary nature of fame!

I was glad that Brown respected dear Anne, and gave her a treat. It was a great episode. I was just able to watch "the Heist" as it was only now posted on YouTube. I was really bothered by it. Even though the "robberies" were done with complete police awareness and cooperation, I can only imagine the shame felt by the gunman and gunwoman who went through with the planted suggestions. Can they feel that they will be trusted by any employer now? It was awful to watch . Brown's audacity is amazing

The latest episode involves a younger victim/volunteer but there is a twist in it which throws not only the young woman but also the viewers! Excellent stuff.

Of course Brown would be kinder to a dear elderly lady than to a younger victim. The first part is on Youtube now, and although the lady was wary and somewhat startled, she was put at ease by Brown's considerable charm.
She seems to be the only chosen participant for the series who got a "treat"card,(Shhh! don't tell anyone, but the biaxial cards are flipped to read as Brown wishes.) He still has a somewhat mean streak, and such wicked antics sell tickets and DVD's.I am happy for him. I just wish someone would bamboozle him in a thorough similar terrifying way,one that would shake him up and take a VERY long time to get over. (LOL!!!)
