An online gambling site is taking bets on whether Heather Mills' artificial leg will fall off during her upcoming appearance on "Dancing with the Stars."

Mills, 39, the estranged wife of Beatle Paul McCartney, lost her left leg below the knee in a traffic accident in 1993. She is the first contestant on the hit ABC television show to compete with an artificial limb.

A week before Mills' March 19 debut, Antigua-based gaming site bodog.com opened bets on whether her prosthetic leg would fly off during a dance routine -- and made "no" a heavy favourite.

The site added that Mill's leg "must fall off, not be purposely taken off, during a dance routine for all Yes wagers to be graded a win."

Two things spring to mind here...

1, The sheer callousness of someone opening a book on a disabled person losing their prosthetic limb on TV.

2, The fact that they had to state that the leg "...must fall off, not be purposely taken off, during a dance routine...".

Now I've never seen the American version but I have watched the British one and I have yet to see a dance where the removal of a leg played any real part and if there was wouldn't this give Heather an unfair advantage?

Now the Strictly Come Dancing of 2004 was a classic only marred by the fact that the sublime Aled Jones was robbed and ended up in 4th place. At the time I commented on the resemblance between Aled and my brother, something he strenuously, to the point of obscenity, denied. I think it's time the matter was settled by the massed opinion of the cleverthingies populace.  Take a look at the pictures and vote.

Oh, comments below as usual.

Well... (15-03-2007 17:40:49)

According to the face recognition system on myheritage.com, Gareth looks like:
64% - Lauri Ylonen
63% - Annika Sorenstam
57% - Ben Stiller
56% - John Ritter
55% - Javier Solana
54% - Jared Padalecki
52% - Jim Carrey
50% - Ian McKellen
50% - Fidel Castro
48% - Farrah Fawcett (!!)
99% - Dilbert (ok, so that one was my contribution!)

For balance, I also used another image to see what that came up with and the list is as follows(this particular facsimile produced no results):
73% - Elton John
63% - Sean Bean
62% - Henry Miller
62% - Bob Hope
60% - Kirk Douglas
60% - Rachel Stevens (!)
58% - Jeff Bridges
56% - Jan Peter Balkenende
54% - Kian Egan
54% - Jean-Pierre Raffarin
98% - Dilbert (ok, so this was still my addition, but you have to agree I have a point?)

The second photo was more of a 'distance' one, which probably explains the higher percentace of good looking people in the list ;-)

garethwi (13-03-2007 15:49:17)

Well we love you anyway.

revrobuk (13-03-2007 14:59:48)

But you only resemble George Clooney from the toenails down.

garethwi (13-03-2007 13:07:59)

It's a conspiracy I tell you. there is no similarity whatsoever.

Now if you had said George Clooney...

revrobuk (13-03-2007 10:01:18)

You'd better wait and see what the result of the poll is!
