Nearly 1,000 Big Brother fans have contacted Channel 4 to complain about its ejection of Emily Parr from the reality show.

The broadcaster said 922 phone calls and emails had been received by 2pm today (08/06/07) saying that she should have remained on the show. An additional 68 viewers had praised Channel 4 over its handling of the affair.

Some viewers have apparently registered concerns with the broadcaster that Parr is being used as a scapegoat as Channel 4 seeks to be seen to coming down hard on such behaviour, and are concerned the matter will brand her "something that she may well not be."

Despite 270 people having now complained to Ofcom about the channel's decision to broadcast the word "nigger" uncensored, the channel has received no complaints about this directly.

After the Shilpa Shetty vs Jade Goody saga earlier in the year is there any wonder that Channel 4 have responded in this way? I've seen the footage and I don't think there was a racist intention, more a misguided attempt to be 'street'. However the thing is that anybody can be offended by comments of this sort even when the person to whom it's addressed is not offended.

So sledgehammer/walnut interface? What do you think?

The next task was intended to calm the situation...

Isn't it funny how much the program that claims to be 'more outrageous than ever' panics when something out the ordinary happens...

I somehow don't think the average BB contestant watches any TV which involves a head of state talking.

On thing which this does highlight is that a show which gained fame through controversy has now crossed its own line in the sand, and has, therefore, lost it's raison d'etre.

Did the girl not watch Celebrity BB earlier in the year? Was she not aware of the furore caused? Ye Gods, Heads of State were commenting on the show! What did she expect to happen when she used that word?
