Yahoo news reports that german stores are destorying miniature wooden Santa Claus figures because customers complained that they were giving the Nazi salute, which is apparently outlawed in Germany.

A spokesman for Rossmann, the store burning the Santa models, said that he was supposed to be pointing to the sky, and expressed surprise that anyone saw the nazi salute in that.

He might indeed be surprised.  Presumably, similar activities like changing light bulbs, hailing taxis, and trying to attract a teachers attention are also banned for fear it might lead to a resurrection of the Third Reich.

The staff at Rossmann might want to remember a phrase from their own country, issued as a warning in the 1830's, and only slightly changed to fit this article; 'What begins with the burning of little wooden Santas will end with the burning of bodies' (of little wooden santas, presumably).
