Where Break Time Really Means Break Time...
The clampdown came after a display at a school in the state of Tamil Nadu included a motorcyclist putting a plank over a young girl and driving over her. After the incident, on 15 July, senior official Mr K Devarajan confirmed that officials had sent notices to 50,000 schools warning against events that include "risky stunts".
He added that parents had pressured the school into holding the motorcycle show to celebrate the centenary of K Kamaraj, who founded modern education in the state. The parents also reassured teachers that their children were experienced in martial arts, and were keen to show off their offspring's skills.
One of the parents told a local newspaper that the tough youngsters were keen to take part, and had volunteered to lie in the path of the motorcycle. Indian schools often hold displays of their pupil's prowess in the martial arts to honour visiting celebrities.
Since when has running someone over been a martial art?
