A Computer Once Beat Me At Chess, But It Was No Match For Me At Kick Boxing

A top French chess player was knocked out of a grandmasters tournament in India - when he was judged too drunk to play.

Vladislav Tkachiev, 35, was said to be drunk when he arrived at the Kolkata Open Grandmasters Chess Tournament, reports the Indian Express. He allegedly kept falling asleep while contemplating his moves during the hour long match. Other players kept shaking him to wake him up but eventually he had to be carried off.

Officials decided the Russian-born player wasn't in any condition to carry on against Tamil Nadu's Praveen Kumar who was awarded the match. Tournament co-organiser Soumen Majumder said the incident was bad advertisement for the tournament and that a meeting would be held to take action against the French player.

"What happened is unfortunate. It's in bad taste. Once the event is over, we will hold a meeting and decide how to proceed against this player," he said. Tkachiev's opponent Praveen Kumar didn't want to comment. "All I have to say is that I was given the point after the match, that's all," he said.

Personally I think drunk is the only way to play chess!

Bad behaviour was not limited to human chess players...
